Abstract

This study provides an inventory of scarab beetles (Scarabaeidae) in the Lower Gangetic Plains of West Bengal, India, based on field surveys and collections housed at the Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata, India. A total of 32 species, distributed across 19 genera, 9 tribes, and 5 subfamilies, were identified. Notably, Popillia birmanica Arrow and Xylotrupes mniszechi mniszechi Thomson are newly recorded scarab beetles form the West Bengal state. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of scarab beetle diversity in this region and underscore the importance of effective pest management strategies to mitigate potential negative impacts.
